Country Holiday Log Cabins in Dorset
Gold Oak Country Cabins is situated near the Hampshire / Dorset border midway between Bournemouth and Salisbury, near the lovely village of Cranborne. Within half an hours drive of the cabins there is the New Forest, access to the M3, Salisbury Plain; including Salisbury Cathedral, the Isle of Purbeck including Corfe Castle and the Dorset Jurassic Coast Line, the beautiful town of Wimborne with its Minster and nearby Badbury Rings. Within an hours drive the attractions are too many and varied to mention but they range from Isle of Portland and Chesil Beach in the west to Portsmouth and H.M.S Victory in the east and Stone Henge to the north. Not to mention the beauty and hidden treasures of the Avon and the Stour Valleys.
Gold Oak Farm has been owned by the Butler family for nearly 100 years. In the old days it was a small fixed farm with all the work done with horses and manual labour. The first tractor arrived on the farm in about 1950. Around that time my father started selling fresh milk door to door around the local villages. This went hand in hand with the gradual specialisation into dairy farming. This intensification continued until 1986, when my father Clifford retired and it was decided to stop dairying and sell the cows and the milk quota to fund his and my mothers retirement. At this point the farm changed and became more people focused, the dairy buildings were converted into stables and the close fields are used for horses to graze on. The existing ponds were added and extended to form the basis of the day ticket coarse fishery. Over the years many anglers have commented on how peaceful and quiet it was around the lakes. In 2008 the decision was taken to apply for planning permission to build luxury holiday log cabins around the lakes. This was subsequently granted in the summer of 2010. Construction work started in the winter 2010-2011 and was completed in August 2011 with our first guests visiting us in September 2011. Since then, the holiday lodges have been very busy with our guests enjoying the luxury facilities including hot tubs and wood burning stoves. The countryside setting provides a quiet and tranquil atmosphere from which to explore the local area or just to enjoy the fishing!
